Preserving context without hoarding everything

Last substantive edit May 2026.

Capture thread context

Include surrounding messages when exporting or screenshotting—single lines mislead readers.

Minimize re-sharing

Each extra copy increases leak risk. Store in encrypted, access-controlled locations—not open camera rolls indefinitely.

Label uncertainty

Note when timestamps, edits, or forwards make provenance unclear. Do not present partial captures as complete transcripts.

Retention discipline

Delete stale exports when incidents resolve unless counsel or school processes require longer retention.

Platform realities

Ephemeral features and deleted messages may be unrecoverable—alerts are triage cues, not court-ready bundles by default.

When to seek professional help

Legal counsel can advise on admissibility and mandatory reporting.

Limitations

Screenshots alone rarely tell full stories.
